US college essay: Common App personal statement tips
US seniors search “college essay” when the Common App personal statement and supplementals are due. The essay is your story in your voice — not a paid template and not ChatGPT pasted as you. Word limits and prompts change by cycle on CommonApp.org. GKSchools teaches structure and honesty, not a fake 2026 deadline.
Why US students open this page
Personal-statement searches spike every fall. A practice quiz keeps returning students on a unique URL instead of a thin copy of our admission desk.
Common App essay
One main personal statement can go to many member colleges. Prompts are chosen on the Common App site.
Supplements
Many colleges add extra questions (“Why us?”, majors, short answers). Each school’s portal is official.
Help vs ghostwriting
Counselors and teachers may give feedback. Buying an essay or submitting AI text as yours can be an integrity violation.
Official sources
Changing dates, fees, award amounts and cutoffs stay on these sites. GKSchools does not invent them.

FAQs
How long is the Common App essay?
Check the current Common App word limit on the writing section. Do not trust a blog that invents a new cap.
Can I reuse a scholarship essay?
Sometimes as a draft, but prompts differ. Answer the question on the screen.
Should I write about sports injuries or missions?
Only if the story shows your character with specific scenes. Clichés without reflection are weak, not “illegal.”
Does Grammarly make it inauthentic?
Spell-check is normal. Generating the whole essay with AI and pasting it as you is not the same as proofreading.
