US presidents: order, Constitution and civics facts

US students search “list of presidents” and “who is the president” for civics and citizenship-style quizzes. George Washington was the first president. The Constitution sets a four-year term and, after the 22nd Amendment, a two-elected-term limit. On 20 January 2025 Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president (his second, non-consecutive, term). GKSchools does not invent 2026 election results that have not happened.

Why US students open this page

President lists and “who was the first president” remain top US classroom searches every year.

Numbering

Grover Cleveland is counted twice (22nd and 24th) because his terms were not consecutive. That is why the person count and ordinal count differ.

Inauguration Day

Since the 20th Amendment, presidential terms begin on 20 January (with Sunday exceptions handled by law and custom).

Not on this page

We do not invent future 2026 primary results, Electoral College maps or a 2028 winner.

Changing dates, fees, award amounts and cutoffs stay on these sites. GKSchools does not invent them.
