Correct option: B — 0 and 1
Each place is a power of 2.
Correct option: B — 101
4+1 = 5 → 101.
Correct option: B — 13
8+4+1 = 13.
Correct option: B — 256
2^8 = 256 (0 to 255).
Correct option: B — code characters as numbers
A letter becomes a code the computer can store.
Correct option: D — 16
Digits 0–9 and A–F; often shown for colours and memory.
Correct option: B — 8
Digits 0–7.
Correct option: B — Least Significant Bit
The rightmost bit in the usual writing of a binary number.
Correct option: A — 1000
2^3 = 8 → 1000.
Correct option: B — 16
2^4 = 16.
Correct option: A — 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, …
Powers of two.
Correct option: A — 10
2 = 10 in binary.
Correct option: C — 16
2 × 8 = 16 bits.
Correct option: B — Most Significant Bit — usually the leftmost
Opposite of LSB.
13 ÷ 2 = 6 remainder 1, 6 ÷ 2 = 3 r 0, 3 ÷ 2 = 1 r 1, 1 ÷ 2 = 0 r 1. Remainders upward: 1101. Check: 8+4+1=13. Write remainders from last to first.
Electronic circuits easily show two states: on/off, high/low voltage. Two symbols 0 and 1 are enough to code numbers, text (ASCII/Unicode) and instructions. Binary is simple for hardware, even if long for humans.
Places from the right: 0×1 + 1×2 + 1×4 + 0×8 + 1×16 = 2+4+16 = 22. Write the weights 16 8 4 2 1 under the digits. Check by converting 22 back if time allows.
ASCII maps English letters and control codes to numbers (e.g. ‘A’ is 65 in decimal). Unicode can represent Hindi and many scripts so Class 9 Hindi files display correctly. Encoding mismatch shows box characters.
Decimal to binary: divide by 2, list remainders upwards. 13 → 1101; 8 → 1000. Binary to decimal: add powers of two where bits are 1. 10110 → 16+4+2 = 22; 101 → 4+1 = 5. Also state 1 byte = 8 bits = 256 values. Mention ASCII as character coding. Show working in a table of weights 16 8 4 2 1. Neat steps score more than the final digit alone.
Decimal base 10 (0–9) is daily life. Binary base 2 (0,1) is machine language of bits. Octal base 8 (0–7) and hexadecimal base 16 (0–9,A–F) shorten long binary (each hex digit is 4 bits). Convert using division or place values. Example: decimal 15 is 1111 binary and F hex. Class 9 may only require binary–decimal; mention others if the syllabus lists them.
