Neighbours of India

India’s neighbour list is a two-part answer. By land the classroom set is seven: Pakistan, Afghanistan (via the short Wakhan corridor touch, taught with a caveat), China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. By sea the usual pair is Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Afghanistan is the option that splits books. The contact is tiny and tied to the geography of the Wakhan and the Pakistan-administered sector. Most Indian school keys still count Afghanistan among the land neighbours. This desk follows that locked list and names Wakhan so the caveat is visible.
The longest land border in the standard teaching is with Bangladesh. China is the other long land frontier (the Line of Actual Control is the working phrase — not a 2026 patrol diary). Sri Lanka is separated by the Palk Strait and the shoals called Adam’s Bridge / Ram Setu. We do not invent a 2026 new neighbour.

- BIMSTEC links some eastern and Bay-of-Bengal neighbours. Do not invent a 2026 chairmanship.

- Kangchenjunga sits on the Nepal border; that does not make Nepal a sea neighbour.
