Highest peak in India
Classroom answer: Kangchenjunga is the highest peak in India. Everest stands on the Nepal–China border, not “highest in India”. GKSchools.
The line that saves marks: the highest peak in India, for a school or SSC paper, is Kangchenjunga. Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain, but it sits on the Nepal–China (Tibet) border. It is not the answer to “highest peak in India”.
Kangchenjunga stands on the Sikkim–Nepal border and is part of the Himalaya. Many books also teach Nanda Devi as the highest peak lying entirely within India — a useful second sentence, not a replacement for Kangchenjunga on a plain “in India” question.
K2 (Godwin-Austen) is taller than Kangchenjunga but lies in the Karakoram in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Indian classrooms still keep Kangchenjunga as the safe “in India” key and leave the K2 sovereignty debate out of a one-line blank. We do not invent a 2026 new summit height.
