The Clever Little Rabbit

In a green garden lived Nivi the rabbit. She was small, but she watched everything — the bees, the gate, and the shady log near the hedge.

One afternoon a hungry fox slipped in. “I will catch a snack,” he whispered. Nivi’s ears stood up. She did not freeze. She hopped to the hollow log and called, “Dinner is this way, Mr Fox — a fat hen is hiding in the dark!”

The fox pushed his nose into the log. It was empty and tight. While he wriggled, Nivi dashed to the gardener’s bell and rang it. The fox fled. Nivi shared carrots with her friends that evening.
