Prepositions — in on at और fixed phrases

Preposition संज्ञा/सर्वनाम को वाक्य से जोड़ती है — in the room, at 5 pm, proud of you. SSC रटा-रटाया संयोजन पूछता है, नई परिभाषा नहीं।

समय और स्थान का कंकाल: at बिंदु (at 6, at the station), on सतह/दिन (on the table, on Monday), in घेरा/महीना-वर्ष (in the box, in July, in 2026)।

क्रिया+preposition जोड़ा अलग रटें: belong to, depend on, consist of, listen to, wait for, look after. Discuss about, marry with, comprise of — ये तीन गलतियाँ हर शिफ्ट में आती हैं।

नियम

1. समय: at 5 o'clock, at noon, at night; on Monday, on 15 August; in January, in 2026, in the morning.
2. स्थान: at the door / at the airport (बिंदु); on the wall / on MG Road; in Lucknow / in India / in the room.
3. arrive in (शहर/देश): arrive in Delhi; arrive at (छोटा स्थान): arrive at the station / at the village hall.
4. since/for Perfect से: since Monday, for two hours. I have been waiting for an hour since 4 p.m. — for अवधि, since बिंदु।
5. between दो, among दो से अधिक। Between you and me. Divide the sweets among the children. Between the three (जब स्पष्ट सीमा हो) कभी स्वीकार्य, SSC में among सुरक्षित।
6. beside = पास; besides = के अतिरिक्त। She sat beside me. Besides English, he knows Hindi.
7. in vs into: in स्थिति, into गति। He is in the hall. He went into the hall.
8. on time = ठीक समय; in time = काफी समय पहले। The Rajdhani is on time. We reached in time to get seats.
9. by साधन/समय-सीमा; with औज़ार/साथ। He went by bus. He cut it with a knife. Finish it by Friday.
10. over/above ऊँचाई; under/below नीचे। The lamp hangs above the table. The river flowed under the bridge.
11. agree with व्यक्ति/प्रस्ताव; agree to योजना; agree on विषय। I agree with you. They agreed to the terms. We agreed on a date.
12. angry with व्यक्ति; angry at बात। She is angry with him. She is angry at his remark.
13. die of बीमारी (die of cholera); die from घाव/बाहरी कारण कुछ कोशों में; die in an accident। SSC: die of disease सुरक्षित।
14. married to, नहीं with। She is married to an engineer. Pride in / proud of: He is proud of his son.
15. consist of, belong to, depend on, fond of, good at, bad at, interested in, famous for, afraid of, accused of, tired of.
16. listen to, wait for, look at / for / after / into / forward to। Look after = देखभाल; look for = खोजना; look into = जाँच।
17. put off = स्थगित; put on = पहनना; put up with = बर्दाश्त; put out = बुझाना। Phrasal अलग रटें।
18. discuss, enter, attend, resemble, order — extra preposition नहीं। Attend the meeting (नहीं attend at). Order him to go.
19. despite / in spite of; because of + noun; owing to। Due to औपचारिकतः subject complement: The delay was due to fog.
20. in the end = अंततः; at the end of = किसी चीज़ के अंत पर। In the end they agreed. At the end of the chapter…
21. useful to व्यक्ति, useful for उद्देश्य। The book is useful to beginners / useful for revision.
22. congratulate on, apologize to + व्यक्ति + for + बात, translate into, prevent from, refrain from, succeed in.
